To his own vicarage, Dr Hawker writes, "My fears have been long awakened, that this solemnn ordinance of our holy faith is not properly understood by numbers (of people), who are nevertheless, in the constant habit of receiving it, and the observation of every renewed attendance at the Table tends but to confirm my apprehensions". With this in mind, he begins with an article on that fundamental point - 'Union with Christ the only possible means of enjoying Communion with God', and he further provides 'A Guide to the Lord's Supper', with prayers, and 'Sacramental Meditations'.
