The subjects of these articles died in the fires of persecution. William Tyndale was strangled and burnt for translating the Bible into English. His work formed the basis of the Authorized translation of 1611. Archbishop Cranmer, Bishop Ridley, Bishop Latimer, Bishop Hooper and John Bradford were all burnt at the stake for refusing to accept the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation.
