Anne Steele's Hymns have passed through four editions since they were first published in 1760. Being the only woman hymnwriter of the eighteenth century along with such great contemporaries as A Toplady, C Wesley, W Cowper and J Newton, her hymns have continued in use until the present day.
This full-length biography is the result of further research into her life, after discoveries of two substantial collections of Steele family records between 1975 and 1980, together with other records from the church she worshipped in, providing a more comprehensive knowledge of her life and times.
